Research & Discovery

The Walter T. Bradley II Heart Fund is the ONLY Research and Education fund benefiting research and education at The Ohio State University Heart and Vascular Center and Ohio State's Comprehensive Stroke Center through the Wexner Medical Center.
We work directly with Dr. Peter J Mohler, Ph.D, Director, Dorthy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, Associate Dean for Basic Research. OSU College of Medicine, American Heart Association Established Investigator, Pew Scholar of Pew Charitable Trust, Kavli Fellow of the United States National Academy of Sciences, Arrived at Ohio State in 2011 following training and positions at Duke, Vanderbilt and University of Iowa.
Funds raised and donated to The Walter T. Bradley II Heart Fund have helped fund the research that lead to the discovery of a new mechanism to repair broken cells following injury. This is a sub component of a field called regenerative medicine, in this case more specifically, membrane repair. The science is focused on generating new molecules or compounds that can "patch" a hole in a cell when it is injured. Our scientist have data that application of this compound to heart myocytes or brain neurons can help heal these cells and prevent further damage.
We have now received funding from both the NFL and National Institutes of Health to purse this technology further. Our researchers have started a company to have the ability to move these compounds to the clinic.
Due to your support of The Walter T. Bradley II Research and Education Fund and the Walter T. Bradley II Golf Classic, the research and science is studied and discovered locally at The Ohio State University!
